WEST GLOS COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS

jamesgreenwood8th June 2009

West Glos Greens polled between around 10 and 19% in the  6 wards in which they stood candidates. No seat this time but the Greens saw their first win in a Gloucestershire County Council seat in Stroud - see here. Below are the results and a letter by James Greenwood (pictured), West Glos Greens Coordinator to the local press.

Letter to local press from James Greenwood:

Thank you to all those who turned out to vote on 4th June.  And a huge thank you to the thousands that voted Green.

In divisions where we had not stood before, we were level-pegging with and beating both Labour and Lib Dem candidates.  Although very different, we are a real alternative.

But with the 'first-past-the-post' system that we have at the moment, the Tories will totally dominate the County Council - and what worries us is that they will descend into the absurd inactivity, bickering and infighting that the Tories have engaged in at the District Council.

Our job now is to hold them to account, whilst continuing to demand:
a massive expansion of the Dilke within the Forest
sorting out the A40/A48-M5 road freight problem
binning the white elephant single incinerator
a much, much, much more efficient transport system

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely,
James Greenwood
West Glos Green Party
