FOREST: EMBRACE POWER OF SUN NOT NUCLEAR |

There are a lot of new houses being built in the Forest. The Government
is about to decide on how to continue energy production. It is possible
that Tony Blair may come down in favour of nuclear, a bad option from
the point of view of future generations having the problem of how to
dispose of the dangerous nuclear waste, which we haven't solved. Also,
nuclear reactors could be prime targets for terrorists with the
consequent destruction of whole countries.
After
pressure from organisations such as Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace
and the Green Party, the Government brought in legislation that all new
houses should be built with adequate insulation to reduce heat loss (i).
Cheap heat can be provided in individual homes by such methods as solar power via water panels and photo-voltaic tiles.
We must urge the Government to activate another law saying all new houses must be built with these forms of energy production.
What a wonderful opportunity there would have been in the Forest with all the new houses going up.
