Join the national campaign: "Keep our NHS Public" See latest news release with links to actions we can all take to stop the cuts. See latest letter Across the country NHS patients and local communities have been linking up with nurses, doctors and other health care workers to meet, march, protest and lobby as they fight to stop further closures and cuts in local NHS services. The Cotswolds previously faced £9m cuts in health care and a ward close at the Gloucester Royal Hospital. Standish Hospital has already closed. 30 more community hospitals are under immediate threat across the country. Newly qualified nurses and other health professionals are finding no jobs in the NHS, and thousands more health workers' jobs are being axed. But alongside the cuts, an unprecedented process of privatisation is under way: vital services and precious NHS resources are being handed over to the private sector, including companies run for profit for shareholders here and overseas. Our own Gloucester Royal Hospital has been built under a private finance scheme. The national campaign was launched in late September 2005 and has already won the backing of hundreds of senior doctors, academics, health workers and trade union leaders, celebrities, MPs and local campaigners. Stroud District Green party have been out on the streets with the petition and have more days planned.
