GREENS TELL CINEMA-GOERS

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Outside cinema on Wednesday - details from Philip
Booth on 07817456646

As the all too realistic disaster movie "The Day After Tomorrow" goes
out on general release, Green campaigners are leafleting cinema goers
all over Europe, including Cheltenham telling how they could do their
bit for the planet on June 10th.

Keith Bessant, a spokesperson for the Cheltenham Green Party said: "The
film is a Hollywood epic so of course it's not entirely authentic. But
the message is sound, that climate change threatens disaster. And there
has never been a better time for this message to come home to the
public, because only political action can stop climate change and only
the Greens have shown both the necessary understanding and the
political will."

Keith Bessant added: "It is great that the Stroud-based company "Snow
Business" were behind the scenes portrayed in the movie."

The leaflets highlight ongoing Green campaigns to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, make appliances more efficient and promote renewable energy,
while reminding cinema-goers of the importance of voting green in the
European elections.

The UK Green Party protest is part of a European-wide campaign to raise
awareness of the seriousness of climate change. Leaflets will also be
distributed this week outside cinemas across Europe including Austria,
Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Sweden

One Green activist leafleting in Gloucester commented: "People seem to
have really been affected by the movie and are very receptive to our
green message as they come out of the cinema. I don't think I've ever
received such positive feedback in all the years I've been campaigning
on the streets."
