In the gardens of the beautiful Brunswick Square, the first-ever Green
Fayre in Gloucester will bring together local and fair trade food and
goods, environmentally friendly businesses and campaigns for social
justice with an afternoon of music and entertainment.
Bryan Meloy, from the Gloucester Green Party who are organising the
event, said: "This is a first for Gloucester and an exciting
opportunity for many different groups to get together. We are very
fortunate to have this beautiful square for the event and hope people
will come along on 17th to visit the stalls and enjoy the bands which
include an African drum workshop, Bottlegag and Bridgit and her big
girl blues(i). It should be a good day - and it's free to get in."
Amongst the various stalls there will be top quality goods for babies
and toddlers, the opportunity to test drive the latest electric motor
assisted bicycles and hear about water fluoridation. The Woodcraft Folk
will be providing craft activities for children.
There are still a few places left for stallholders. Contact Bryan Meloy

12pm: Bridgit and her big girl blues - We are delighted to announce
that Bridgitt and her big girl blues will be performing at Gloucester's
first ever Green Fayre - For those who have not heard Bridgitt
before...HELLO..where have you been. This fabulous vocalist from
Gloucester needs no introduction, her amazing voice and presence
continue to astonish audiances around Britain. Singing songs from a
catalogue of greats including Besse Smith and Billie Holiday and
accompinied the guitar talents of Andy Wood,. Dare you miss this Blues
sensation
1pm: Ropert (Akoma) - African Drum Workshop
2pm: Sam Holmes...'she's electric'...simply put...Sam sparkles her way
through gigs, with stunning vocal and guitar arrangments. This artist
from Cheltenham tranfixes through her lush ballads and dreamy
songwriting. One cannot simply compare Sam to anyone else, we shall
just say that this sort of wonderful talent is very rare. Decide for
yourselves and do yourself a favour.....
3pm: Karma Truffle...an audiable delight, pop with a dashing of folk,
guess you would call it polk, then again, karma truffle sounds a lot
better. A perfect antidote to a fast paced saturday afternoon in
Gloucester. Let them entertain you whilst sit back and enjoy carefully
constructed songs and wonderful vocal harmonies...as they say "Let the
music do the talking"
4pm: Bottlebag...fresh from recording their first E.p, Bottlebag have
exploded onto Gloucestershires limelight, with dynamite funk/reggae
grooves, sweet jazz melodies and can't get you outta my head pop songs
..this band has it all. For anyone who listens and enjoys music form
the past and present, will undoubtly enjoy the sounds that Bottlebag
create. Formed 6 months ago, by a group of friends and musicians,
Bottlebag emerged from the suburbs of Gloucester to create a 6 piece
group....influenced by all things soulful. Andy, Jo, Dawn Iz,, Alex and
Ed. ...have continued to wow audiences up and down Gloucestershire
whilst busy working on a current album. Bottlebag are now complete and
heading for success..... with performances in the presence of HRH The
Prince of Wales, support for The Ska Daddies and an iminent European
tour lurking around the corner, they are riding high on success, the
future is bright..the future is Bottlebag.
5pm: Si Connely...is a no gimmicks artist who inspires. It becomes
apparent, that, despite Si's emphatic strumming and punishing
domination of his guitar, it is his voice which overides it all. It
would be unfair to compare his voluminous vocals to other recent acts,
which would imply attempts of emulationg other established musicians:
far from it. However for descriptive purposes, mix the vibrato tones of
Stereophonics front man Jonesy, with the octal range and Muse-like
angsy-intonations, with an animated Richard Ashcroft presence, and huge
volume - your almost there. There is talk that Si, who has been
recently signed ,will be acompanied with some of Cheltenhams hottest
musicians His 5pm performance at the Green Fayre is not to be missed.
