UK GREENS TO "MAKE HISTORY" IN FOUNDING EUROPE-WIDE GREEN PARTY Print E-mail
In a "landmark" political moment, top UK Greens are to join Greens from
32 parties across Europe this weekend to found the "European Green
Party": a trans-national political party.

From Britain, Caroline Lucas MEP and Jean Lambert MEP will join, with
the likes of Green German foreign minister Joschka Fischa, to sign a
charter founding the European Green Party during the 3 day congress in
Rome. More than 1,000 participants and eight observer parties are
expected to attend the conference.

Caroline Lucas, Principal Speaker for the Green Party of England and
Wales and Euro MP for the South Eastern region, comments: "The
European Green party is a political 'first'. It is a product of the
Greens' increasing popularity across Europe, and the real progress
European Greens have made in developing common policies and ways of
working together."

Carol Kambites, Green Euro-candidate for the South West region in this
years elections, in what is tipped to be the Greens' best ever year,
comments: "We have nearly 170 seats in European governments and 38 MEPS
between us. This clearly shows that in this uncertain era of climate
change and war, people throughout Europe are voting Greens into power
to push for real, progressive change."
