Green Party councillor, Gwen Belcher, is supporting
‘Climate Rush on the Run’, a travelling roadshow organised by female
activists from the Suffragette-inspired Climate Rush campaign when they
visit the Farmers Market on Saturday 19th September.
Gwen Belcher, a supporter of Climate Rush, a campaign which uses creative direct action to protest against the government’s commitment to environmentally destructive projects such as airport expansion and new coal fired power stations, said: "Climate Rush is calling for a revolution in renewable energy and a transition to a fair and sustainable green economy. This is just what Greens and many others also want. In December, crucial talks will be held in Copenhagen to decide a timetable of global action against climate change. The wonderful grassroots’ commitment embodied by campaigns such as Climate Rush and 10:10 must be matched with real political will by local Councils and in Parliament to step up the pressure on governments to commit to tough emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science.”
The ‘On the Run’ roadshow is the brainchild of sixteen Climate Suffragettes, who for one month will be touring the South of England in costume with three horses and two caravans to raise awareness of the fight against climate change.
