GREENS JOIN ANTI-INCINERATOR MARCH Print E-mail

inc328th April 2009

Martin Whiteside, Parliamentary candidate and Stroud District councillor and Clare Sheriden, Stonehouse Town councillor joined other Greens and protestors on Saturday 18th April in Quedgerley to protest at consideration being given to a large incinerator at Javelin Park.

Stroud Green Parliamentary Candidate Cllr Martin Whiteside said: "The priority must be to reduce the amount of waste we produce in the first place and then recycle as much of possible.  What is left should be dealt with in much smaller decentralised units, using the newer technologies now available, which can recover significant heat and power.  The days of large centralised incinerators should be over. The need to feed the beast can be a dis-incentive to real action to reduce waste and increase recycling."
