View of proposed Housing Development on Egypt Mill Flood Meadows, Nailsworth

I have just become aware of a planning application by “Cheldon”, which involves the construction of a four-story block of flats on a beautiful flood meadow adjacent to the Nailsworth Stream behind Tradeplas. Please refer to S.08/0699/OUT on the planning section of the SDC website, and www.stopthisdevelopment.org for full details.

A few years ago, the Nailsworth end of the cycle trail ran through dappled woodland and straight into the old railway yard. There were many opportunities to enhance this area, and the recent work to restore Dunkirk Mill ponds is one example. This started to change hugely when the bizarre and wholly inappropriate Goldwater Springs development was foisted upon us. Why SDC did not throw this out baffles me. Now we have proposals for a further despoilation of this area. Can I urge readers to make their views on this matter known to SDC and their elected representatives before the deadline of 20th May.

Nailsworth residents are thoroughly fed up with having developments foisted on them despite strong local objections, and once more are left saying “here we go again”. It is about time that SDC stood up for what is right, rather than running scared from the possibility of legal costs.
