The roof of the famous blue tin church at Thrupp has collapsed - Greens call for wonderful building to be saved

The long-abandoned metal building is described as a "landmark building in a conservation area" when it was saved from demolition by a planning inspector 10 years ago.

Thrupp Green party District councillor  Martin Whiteside, who attended a site meeting last Thursday said: "It is incredibly sad. The whole roof is caved in. It is an absolute shame. We would like to see it repaired properly and returned to community use."

Martin Whiteside, said: "It's outrageous that the building is allowed to get in such a state. Although it's not a listed building it sits within a conservation area so it's in the curtilege of two listed buildings. If it was in a reasonable state it would be used by many groups in the community. Although limited, the council has got some legal powers - you can always compulsory purchase, like with Tricorn House."
