A personal view from a Green party member who is often asked why they moved from California to Nailsworth

People ask me, "what on earth caused you to move from California?" I love the autumn with it's carpets of bright beech leaves on the ground (what a way to die). More so I love the winter even without snow, because of my efficient double glazed Woodburner heating our 4 bed house.

It's more exciting to watch than T.V., and in this age of Peak Oil and Climate Change, it's a wonderful carbon-neutral heating.  And it could be for many more people, judging by the amount of rotting wood in the woods and planks in the skips.

I also use sawdust free from the carpenters.  It works a treat.  Oh yes, I must admit to the use of a car for transport and an electric saw for cutting, so it's not quite carbonfree.
