I would like to thank the nearly 200 people in Central Ward who trusted me with their vote on Thursday. I am only sorry that I will not be able to represent your views on the Council this time around.
This is a chance for a personal celebration for me, being the first time I have ever elected somebody (Martin Whiteside in Thrupp), in spite of having voted in every election since I was 18--26 years ago! With an electoral system that throws away most people's votes at every election can we really be surprised that so many people just don't bother? The falling turnout levels make the argument for a PR system stronger at each election.
