27th April 2007
Green party election statement for The Citizen: 200 words
Greens represent strong independent voices that are having an increasingly important influence on Council policy. We are defending 4 seats and hope to win more: we are the main opposition in Rodborough, Stroud Central and Nailsworth.
Winning more seats will be vital in ensuring the current administration improves its record on cutting waste, recycling, energy savings, affordable housing and green field protection. Greens also want more support for our local economy like small businesses and Post Offices, plus more investment in public transport.
Greens want to cut casualties on our roads with policies like 20 mph in all residential areas. We have also campaigned to protect local health services and are the only main party signed up to the national campaign to stop privatisation of the NHS.
Greens welcome that other parties are starting to wake up to climate change and it's impact on our lives and the economy. However we need much greater urgency, with money from energy savings being reinvested to create more savings.
Working together we can build a better Stroud District and a stronger future for us all. Please vote Green for a better future.
