ELECTION ADDRESS FOR GAZETTE Print E-mail

9th March 2007

Gwen-BelcherGreens listen and work to get your views and frustrations taken notice of at the Council. We represent strong independent voices: free to act in the interests of local people not some party machine. We have been active in the campaign to protect local health services and are the only main party to sign up to the national campaign 'Keep Our NHS Public' which is working to stop privatisation of the NHS.

Greens have led the way on raising the issue of climate change. We welcome that other parties are finally waking up, but we need a much greater sense of urgency. We have been key to ensuring the District Council's Environment Strategy has been significantly improved from it's first draft: we now need to ensure it is delivered and continues to improve. Policies to save energy mean saving money and building stronger local communities.

Greens want to see our local economies thriving and have sought to have local peoples views heard when in two polls they have opposed a supermarket in Dursley. Supermarkets can seriously damage local economies: there are better ways to regenerate communities. Greens also want to see more action on protecting our local services like Post Offices, community policing, protecting green fields, more affordable housing and ways to cut casualties on our roads including 20 mph in all residential areas.

Greens now have 5 out of 51 Stroud District councillors and are having a huge influence on Council policy - with more Greens elected we can have better policies for a better future.

One Planet. One Chance. One Vote. See more on our website: www.glosgreenparty.org.uk or phone our election hotline on 01453 751189.
