27th March 2007
Following
'green action days' by the Conservative Party in some parts of the
country the Stroud District Green Party questioned the national Tory
Party's environmental credentials, with its long history of
privatisation and turning ablind-eye to corporate pollution.
Martin
Whiteside, the Green party's Parliamentary candidate for Stroud said
today : "Cameron and his colleagues, while trying to be all things to
all people, are appearing to portray an image of environmental
awareness andconcern. In Stroud District, all party collaboration on
the environment strategy shows that some Tories are willing to become
greener, and we warmly welcome that, but we should not forget that the
underlying principles of the Tories mean that if your vote blue you get
blue."
Martin Whiteside said: "Today, the Green
party has exposed the depth of cynicism behind Tory rhetoric. We've
published the Top Ten Tory Eco
Cons. How can they reconcile policies like this with a supposed new
found enthusiasm for the environment? The only way to get green
policies, and green action, is to vote Green."
The national Top Ten Tory Eco Cons the Greens are attacking are:
1 Support for nuclear power
2 Support for new roads
3 Support for aviation growth
4 Opposition to EU green schemes
5 Axing environmental regulations as “red tape”
6 Opposition to congestion charging
7 Support for incineration of waste
8 Support for tax cuts for super-consumers
9 Support for low taxes for the most polluting multinational businesses
10 Support for Trident replacement rather than tackling climate change
