GLOS UNIV TUITION FEE DISCOUNT IS UNFAIR Print E-mail

19th September 2006

Students.jpgThe University of Gloucestershire has improved its standing in a list of Britain's best facilities - but news that it is to offer a discount to students and parents who pay the £9,000 tuition fees for a three-year course up front has been condemned by Gloucestershire Greens.

Cllr Philip Booth, a Stroud District councillor said: "To reward well off students in this way is outrageous and another example of how this Government's policies are hitting hard-working families. These fees will be tailored so that students from low-earning families don't pay them, but those who cannot find £9,000 will be the ones disatvantaged."

Notes:

(i) The University of Gloucestershire has improved its standing in the Sunday Times list of Britain's best facilities for the second year running. The university, which has campuses in Cheltenham and Gloucester, moved up from a position of 98th to 89th.
