FOREST GREENS GEAR UP FOR ELECTIONS IN 2007 Print E-mail

10th August 2006

forestmeet.jpgLast night Forest of Dean Green party members met at The Speech House in the heart of the Forest to look at how they will fight the District Council elections next year.

The Speech House was built in 1676 as Charles II's hunting lodge - it houses the Verderer's Court - Britain's oldest functioning court room - the court house of the Foresters of Dean who meet four times a year. It became the place one went to talk or to make a Speech - hence the name "Speech House" - an entirely appropriate place for the Green party to plan it's next steps in the Forest.

speechhouse.jpgStephen Tweedie, who was the Parliamentary candidate for the Green party in the Forest in the last election, said: "We hope to build on our support and make a real impact on Forest politics. The time is ripe for Green politics - people want a change."

Philip Booth, who had travelled to the Forest from Stroud for the evening, said: "This is very exciting. I am sure we are now in a position to win seats at the next election in the Forest."
