COUNTY TRANSPORT ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Print E-mail

Gloucestershire's Local Transport Plan 2006 to 2011: 'Environmental Statement' is now available. This is the last statutory stage in the process of carrying out the Strategic Environmental Assessment of our Second Local Transport Plan.

The ‘Environmental Statement’ explains: how environmental considerations, consultation responses and government guidance have been taken into account and integrated into the plan; the reasons for choosing the strategy in light of the other reasonable alternatives dealt with; and the measures that are to be taken to monitor the significant environmental effects of the implementation of the plan.

Philip Booth, a spokesperson for Stroud District Green party said: "This Local Transport Plan has been a bitter disappointment. It is no comfort to know that even the County's own 'Environmental Statement' recognises the Plan adopted needs changing if it is to tackle climate change. It is particularly disappointing when two out of the four options would have actively reduced CO2 emissions but were not chosen. Basically the County are ignoring the facts and failing to take responsibility to do our bit to tackle climate change."
