STAVERTON ACTION WAS RIGHT Print E-mail

25th July 2006

Airplane.jpgMadam - The protesters at Staverton airport (Echo, July 18) are right to draw our attention to the dangers of aviation and climate change. The use of aircraft is increasing rapidly and the effect of the greenhouse gases produced by planes is made worse because they are deposited high in the atmosphere.

Preserving our lifestyle from climate change is both a national and a personal issue.

And it has local county connections when the sale of expensive new houses is linked to the use of private jets landing at Kemble.

None of us likes the idea of losing our trips abroad but maybe saving the world for our grandchildren is more important.

John Heywood,
Cheltenham Green Party.
