The world’s top 25 food companies appear not to be taking the new global diet and health agenda seriously enough.

 

Key facts from over 60 pages of findings include:
. Only 10 out 25 companies reported that they were acting on salt: Cadbury Schweppes, ConAgra, Kraft, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Unilever, Ahold, Carrefour, Tesco and Compass.
. Only five reported action on sugar. Four were manufacturers: ConAgra, Kraft, PepsiCo, Unilever, plus only one retailer: Ahold.
. Only four reported action on fat. These were Kraft, PepsiCo, Compass and Yum!.
. Eight reported action on transfats: Cadbury Schweppes, ConAgra, Danone, Kraft, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Unilever and Ahold

Other news: twelve year old Jasmine Roberts' science project involved testing the quality of water in the likes of Burger King and McDonalds and found that the water in the ice contained more bacteria than the water in the toilets! Jasmine even went on to win the regional science competition for the quality of her research! Another fact in the media recently was that manufactured meat in the US contains so many potentially poisonous toxins that tests have revealed that kitchen sinks contain more e-coli bacteria than the rims of toilets!
