Results of May 2008 elections here: Greens gain sixth seat on Stroud District Council
The Green Party has five Councillors on Stroud District Council. At the moment the Conservatives have an unhealthy overall majority with 31 out of 51 Councillors. This isn't good for local democracy as none of their decisions can be seriously challenged. The Green vote is growing faster than any other party and in last year's elections Greens took 23.4% of the vote, overtaking Labour while the Lib Dems polled just 10.6%. This year we are putting up candidates in all 17 wards being contested.
Green Councillors are respected for working hard on local issues. Green Councillors are increasingly influential... just think what a difference a few more would make!

Chris Harmer missed being elected today by 47 votes. John Marjoram, Chris Harmers' agent, said: "The Greens fought one of their best campaigns ever so it is very disappointing to loose again by only a few votes - but we will be back to hopefully win the seat next time."
We
are standing 12 candidates for Stroud District Council, 5 for
Gloucester City, 2 for Tewkesbury and 6 for the Forest of Dean District elections on May
3rd. We are defending four seats including John Marjoram, the longest
serving Green Councillor in the country, going for a record 7th term.
We are working hard and with green issues firmly on the agenda plan to
make gains this year.
Here's the election leaflets for our candidates, more information to follow soon. See national launch of campaign here: a record 1421 candidates.
