Martin Whiteside is the Green Party Parliamentary candidate for Stroud constituency.
Martin lives in Thrupp, and is married with three children who have all been to local schools. He is an international development consultant and works for organisations like Oxfam and the UN. He is a Stroud District Councillor and is involved in many local initiatives, including making our roads safer, protecting our green fields from badly planned development and finding alternatives to a mass incinerator for our rubbish.
Statement for 2010 Election:
Martin says: "There's more to the Green Party than you think. The Green Party stands for the future - your future and the planet's future. We have carefully worked out policies, on the economy, crime, social justice, health and much more to achieve this. We are determined to close the gap between rich and poor, and to end the wasteful over-consumption by a few. We want a future where families matter, where communities are strong and people can contribute through interesting and rewarding work. We want houses properly insulated so that they no longer waste heat, better public transport so that we are less reliant on cars, and local schools and hospitals serving the needs of the community and not private corporations. This sounds idealistic, but actually it is just basic common sense. You have one vote - use it at the next General Election to choose a better future."
Green MP For Stroud!
With the campaign now moving swiftly into its last few weeks, a Facebook group, 'Green MP For Stroud!' has been set up. We need lots of you to join and help it make a big impact! Join here.
Green politics is also about economics and fairness. Unlike the other parties we don't promise continuous economic growth; in fact we seem to be the only ones who recognise that this is impossible. Have a look at The Impossible Hamster here to see what we mean. Greens also recognise that we will only be able to achieve a peaceful future if the wealth of the world is shared a lot more fairly than at present.
Candidacy Re-selection Announcement
Martin's success in the 2005 election has led to his re-selection as the Green Party's candidate for the next General Election. Read announcement.
